Mixed Media production at "The Kitchen"
Starting in September TMS will be collaborating with students from Liberty High School in Manhattan, and teaching artist Alison Fleminger, to produce an original multimedia theater piece at the legendary non-profit NYC interdisciplinary cultural center, The Kitchen. Liberty is a Bilingual/English as a Second Language school that meets the special needs of newly-arrived non-English speaking immigrant students.
Alison and I will work with a class from Liberty to create a student-centered theater production that will incorporate video in some way. For inspiration, we will review performances from The Kitchen's archives where the two media were mixed in live performances, then decide on a theme for the piece, and finally figure out how to use video. Throughout the process we will compare how the two media communicate differently to live audiences. The culminating event will be a performance at The Kitchen in December.
