TV Turnoff blog for Colorado High School
We recently helped long-time TMS friend and colleague Joe Destefano document his annual TV Turnoff on a Wordpress-powered blog.
The TV Turnoff is part of a media studies unit that Mr. D has incorporated into his high school English class for a few years now, but this was the first time that the students' experiences were documented online.
Mr. D is quick to note the irony of using the Internet to facilitate a "screen-dissuasion" program, but the new medium seemed to add to the kids' heightened awareness of technology-dependence, as well as increase their excitement and participation.
Both the TV Turnoff and the blog discussion are great examples of simple media education projects that can be integrated easily into existing curricula, engage students, and promote basic media literacy concepts.
